Kpododo Mobile Messaging Platform's Campaign Proves Critical in Ghana's Fight Against COVID-19
The COVID-19 outbreak has had a profound impact on Ghana, affecting multiple aspects of daily life. As of March 2023, there have been over 171,000 confirmed cases and more than 1,400 deaths. During the peak of the pandemic, misinformation and conspiracy theories spread quickly due to a lack of information about the disease, causing significant damage to the health, education, and economic systems.
Despite the development of effective vaccines, vaccine hesitancy remained a problem due to continued misinformation. To combat the spread of COVID-19, the Kpododo mobile engagement platform, developed by Savana Signatures, was adopted to provide essential information about the disease and its prevention
The Kpododo platform disseminated targeted voice and SMS messages to specific groups of people, including healthcare workers, pregnant and lactating mothers, fathers, adolescents, and individuals living in areas with confirmed cases of the disease. These messages focused on vital preventive measures such as proper handwashing, mask-wearing, and social distancing.
By providing accurate and timely information, the Kpododo platform helped people take proactive measures to protect themselves and others. The campaigns also played a crucial role in dispelling myths and misinformation about infectious diseases.
As at March 2023, the Kpododo mobile engagement platform had transmitted 12 million messages to 6 million people in Ghana and significantly increased awareness about preventive measures.
The use of the Kpododo mobile messaging platform has proved to be a critical tool in Ghana’s fight against COVID-19. By targeting specific groups of people, providing accurate timely information, dispelling myths, and misinformation, the platform has helped raise awareness and promoted preventive measures. The campaigns underscore the importance of effective communication strategies in the fight against infectious diseases.
